Svilengrad counts +26,000 citizens and is located on the Greek-Turkish-Bulgarian border. The municipality, crossed by Maritsa River which also constitutes the natural border with the neighboring countries, suffers from frequent flood events which cause serious damages to the population, economic and agriculture activities. Currently the municipality has developed a municipal plan for protection from disasters and emergencies. The municipality cooperates with a team of 24 volunteers for prevention and control of disasters and emergency situation.
Svilengrad Municipality will take part of all international events, selecting relevant participants in line with the event agenda. It will be responsible for selecting the local NGOs and in guiding them in citizens involvement initiatives.
