Valka is situated in the north-east of Latvia on the border with Estonia with a population of 9670 citizens (in 2015). 59% of territory is forests and in large part included in Nature 2000 network therefore the city is particularly sensitive to environmental protection and climate change adaptation also in consideration of flood rivers, heavy snow storms, forest fire events often occurring. Valka is investing and working towards climate change impact reduction and climate change adaptation.
Valka will take part to all international events, selecting relevant participants in line with the event agenda. It will be responsible for selecting the local NGOs and in guiding them in citizens involvement initiatives. Valka will be responsible for first International Training Session organisation.
